Dangers of not recycling
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), from a study in the year 2006, the average amount of trash created by people currently living in the United States is over 4.6 pounds of trash and other wastes each and every day. This is a large percentage for just one person alone. The trash figure including residents, businesses, and institutions, US generated over 251 million tons of trash in the year 2006 alone. With this statistic, visualize how many regions will be destroyed from accumulations of garbage.
Our landfills are already too full with non-degradable items and trash that are renewable, but we have to make people see what this is doing to our environment. It’s not just the burning of fossil fuels that destroys our protection layers, but also piles of HYPERLINK "http://www.shvoong.com/tags/waste/" waste. Without recycling our wastes, the rubbish will completely encircle and swallow the forests. Decomposing waste regularly releases harmful gases and chemicals at landfill sites. These released gases and chemicals results in air pollution and contamination of water when these chemicals percolate in ground water.
Just imagine what we are inheriting our coming generation……….where there is no place to live, air and water are polluted; lots of species of animals and birds will be a history for them. We as parents who are concerned about even a single scratch on our kid, how can we do this to them……“Think before you throw”
