Some tips on how to reduce your Carbon Footprint:

We all are answerable for climate change and it is our responsibility to work for its solution or at least lessen our own carbon footprint. To lessen and offset these carbon emissions we need to follow these simple steps.
Here are few carbon reducing and cost-effective energy saving opportunities anyone can take:

  • 1. Reforestation
One of the most important solution for reducing our carbon footprints is to plant trees as trees sustains the water vapor and purifies the air by absorbing CO2. We need to plant trees as much as we can as they play an important role in controlling CO2 (green house gas) which is main culprit of global warming.
  • 2. Choose Energy efficient home appliances
Many things, like TVs, computers, stereos, and VCRs, have special labels on them. The label says "Energy" and has a picture of a star on it. Products with the ENERGY STAR are there to save energy. So buying the products with ENERGY STAR will help us reducing our carbon footprint.
  • 3. Save Electricity
Whenever we use electricity, we add greenhouse gases into the air. So switch off your PC or TV when not in use.
  • 4. Use Compact fluorescents (CFLs)
Don't use bulbs which require high energy, prefer Energy Star compact fluorescents, which are proved best for their quality and durability.
  • 5. Changing Air filters on timely basis
Emission of CO2 can be reduced by changing air filters along with keeping air conditioner coils clean.
  • 6. Carpool When You Can
Carpooling with friends and co-workers can save energy. You can save energy by sometimes taking the bus, or train instead of using your own vehicle every time.
  • 7. Reduce Garbage
Buy products that use less packaging material and use recycled paper, plastic and glass. By reducing the number of trips trucks must make to the landfill as well as the amount of methane released by our landfills, it will help in reducing our carbon footprint.
  • 8. Use Recycled products.
Recyclable products are made out of things that already have been used. It takes less energy to create recycled products than to create new ones.
  • 9. Inflate your tyres
Keep the tyres of your car adequately inflated, so you can save lots of CO2.
  • 10. Unplug your charger
Unplug your chargers while you're not charging any pads, cell phones, digital cameras and other gadgets.
  • 11. Switch off lights when not in use
Don't forget to switch off lights whenever you leave a room may it be your home or your office/workplace.
  • 12. Unplug appliances which are not in use
Unplug seldom-used appliances, like an extra TV, refrigerator, A/C, cooler etc which you doesn't use frequently.
  • 13. Keep your computer on sleep and hibernate mode
Set your computer to "sleep mode" feature, which enables your computer to use lesser power as compared to normal. Hibernating computers can make you able to save much more energy than enabling your computer to sleep mode as it shuts down your computer by saving your work at the same state.
  • 14. Use Hybrid and Fuel Efficient Car
Buy Hybrid Car and Fuel Efficient Car which can raise your fuel efficiencies, which in turn will decrease the release of CO2 and will also save your money.
  • 15. Lose the heavy stuff, travel light
Each 100 lbs. in your car can increase gas consumption by 1-2%.
  • 16. Spread Awareness amongst your Family and Friends. Talk about climate change with your family and friends, Share what you have learned and encourage them to reduce their carbon footprints.
